Wintergreen essential oil, also known as Gaultheria fragrantissima, is composed of around a hundred molecules, but methyl salicylate makes up the majority, which accounts for its qualities in sports massages (it’s rubefacient), as well as its benefits in wellness contexts such as for rheumatism, osteoarthritis, heavy legs, etc. What sets it apart from its relative, Gaultheria procumbens, is its fragrance: more refined, with hints of leather and caramel, even though the initial impact remains medicinal. In energetic aromatherapy, it facilitates energy circulation and helps counter compulsions.
